The Science of... : Science of Survival tracking software

The Science of Survival exhibition is a fun and futuristic interactive experience based around environmental issues. It launched at Science Museum in April 2008. ico were the lead design agency on the project and as well as branding, graphic and interactive roles, we also developed bespoke tracking software that records and analyses visitor statistics.

Our Solution

The interactive team at ico has developed custom tracking software to monitor visitor data and control the exhibition as a whole using RFID card system technology.

This information is used in the Conclusion interactive installation, where the visitors Design your own creations are saved and their scores and choices are reviewed. This information is then used to build their unique ‘district’ in the Future City

Besides enriching the user experience, this tracking facility is also invaluable to the exhibition operator who is able to monitor visitor statistics and adjust the performance of the installations accordingly.

The software was built with its own API (Application Programming Interface) and is flexible enough to be adapted to work with other tracking hardware such as barcode scanners.
