ico part of Human Life Exhibition at Centre for Life
On 24th May 2007 The Centre for Life will officially launch Human Life, the result of a £4.5 million investment which represents the Centre’s first major refurbishment since it opened in May 2000.
ico is delighted to have designed and developed eight interactive installations at this thought — provoking exhibition. The exhibition design is by At Large and explores questions such as: What makes humans human?; how do humans survive in today’s extreme environments?; and what will climate change mean for life on earth?
In both the ‘Our Origins’ and ‘Our Future’ galleries. ico worked with scientists and researchers to find ways to both engage and inform the user. This led to interactives that feature games, animations, films, audio and also allows users to share their thoughts and opinions on a wide variety of topics.
The ‘Our Futures’ gallery tackles the complex issues of ageing, climate control and stem cells by displaying imaginary objects that might exist in the future. These objects then sit on a virtual tabletop and are moved to by the user to find out more detailed information.
‘Our Origins’ gallery covers the broad spectrum of evolution, from how we populated the globe to how we communicate with each other. ico created installations that allow users to make walking humans and to trace the origins of a users name.
“It is always an education to work for museums and galleries, but this project also extended our product design skills. Speculation on what might happen in the 23rd century meant creating extraordinary pieces of packaging that contain animated advertising, NHS prescription gaming devices and government issue sunglasses.” Steve Lloyd, art director, ico design
The exhibition is designed so that visitors of all ages will feel truly part of this science experience.
